Back story:
Hobson is in his mid-30's now, but he tries to repress as much as he can from when he was a child. He didn't get out much, didn't understand the apocalypse, and didn't care about life/civilization before the apocalypse either. He has always kept to himself, and that stems from his strained relationship with his parents. He saw what others had in a warm connection with their parents, and realized he didn't have that. He wanted it, but as time progressed and the relationship with his parents didn't, he started to care less about it.
As a child, though, Hobson would always read murder-mystery novels, primarily written by Agatha Christie. He started thinking methodically, plotting out every move he was going to make and attempting to counter every reaction he thought others would have. Most people he knew were a little put off by Hobson's mentality and began straying from him. Hobson didn't understand why people didn't understand him, so he started keeping to himself.
One significant moment that changed Hobson's life as a child happened at the hands of his parents. Hobson's parents didn't approve of the content he read, so one day his father took his entire collection of Agatha Christie novels except for the one that Hobson was carrying on him (And Then There Were None) and burned them all right in front of his eyes. It was at that moment that Hobson began thinking only for himself and thinking there was no good in people. He learned to feign several emotions, and continues to do so to this day.
Hobson shacked up in the Buckhorn Retirement Abode. He is one of the young ones, and does not trust anybody else. The old people are waiting to die and every so often, he checks to see if there is anything he can steal from them. There isn't much left to take, and as a drinker, the booze has run dry so Hobson goes through withdrawals every so often. He never acts on his violent urges, so he can keep of the the image of being kind-hearted. He will talk to you and listen, but do not be surprised if he uses something you say against you.
